Jimmy Ikonomou

Being influenced by previous studies in Mineralogy and Gemmology in 1996, my
passion started when I cut my first Opal in 1993 in Coober Pedy. I then went on to
work as an opal cutter and dealer for many years.
After several years of jewellery and object making I found my contemporary place
in the Arts and Crafts industry and made works centred on simple shapes and form.
Being a strong believer of simplistic or minimalism in design, my work is thought
provoking utilizing bold shapes and hard lines verses curved and rounded forms
and the power these shapes raise. My work consists of a combination of precious
metals which are fused as one also resulting in a strong contrast and contemporary
style of its own. Involvement with these materials established appreciation and
respect for technique to study the ways in which it could be influenced or
persuaded by artful ingratiation. So my work will change constantly as I progress
to a final piece or create several designs from the one motive.
